Our structural engineering services on the Josiah's Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery project involved a comprehensive renovation of a historic building, necessitating the installation of new exterior CMU walls and reinforcing the roof structure, which included arched built-up wood trusses and joists. A key challenge we faced was preserving the integrity of the century-old building's specialty roof trusses, which were both decorative and structurally critical. We strategically reinforced the trusses to enhance their load-bearing capacity without compromising their aesthetic appeal. The renovated space serves as a vibrant restaurant, offering breakfast, lunch, and coffee, and providing a welcoming atmosphere for patrons to enjoy culinary delights in a historically rich setting.
